PRESS RELEASE: (October 7, 2008) In a scam to fraudulently obtain debit and credit
card information, residents in the Prestonsburg area received calls Sunday
afternoon soliciting card numbers. The solicitor informed the person being
called that his/her Bank card had been suspended and the card number was needed
for verification purposes to reactivate. These calls were not made by any
bank as banks would never contact customers in this manner. Also, the caller
did not have any bank information and were phishing for information. If you
provided a caller this information, please immediately contact your bank. Always remember to keep identifying information including your account
information and social security number in strict confidence. Never give
out identifying information over the phone or through the internet.
